Course Title:  SO214  Racial and Cultural Minorities
Prerequisite:  S0201 or permission of the instructor

Set in Singapore, students will study the relations between racial and ethnic groups in modern America and elsewhere.  After completion of this course, students will be able 1) to apply a conceptual and theoretical overview to the subject area, including the major sociological perspectives -- functionalism, conflict, and interactionism, 2) to debunk myths and stereotypes associated with minority groups, 3) to understand the social, economic, and political relationship between dominant group and minority groups, 4) to examine prejudice, ethnocentrism, and discrimination in the United States and in other part of the world countries, and 5) to think critically and analytically about everyday life.
