Course Title: CS323: Surveillance & Privacy in Germany (3 credits)
This course is an introduction to and comparison between legal, social, historical, political, and technical issues surrounding surveillance and privacy in Germany and the United States. In addition to surveillance and privacy, students research, analyze, and discuss issues of transparency, free speech, democratic dissent, social control, corporate and governmental power, and political parties.
Living Arrangements
Students will live in CityLAB: Berlin apartments which are equipped with kitchens. Aside from a few group lunches or dinners, students are expected to purchase their own meals (i.e. restaurants, grocery stores, etc).
Field Trips and Excursions
Course trips to historical museum, Teufelsberg, Stasi prison, Berlin House of Reps, German Bundestag, European Parliament
